Summary of the contracting process

SP TRANSMISSION PLC (SPT) has completed the award stage of a major procurement process for a Strategic Agreement for Substation Works. Located in Glasgow, the procurement covers the delivery of strategic infrastructure projects under multiple Lots, such as Substation Civil Enabling Works and Substation Construction Works, throughout central and southern Scotland. This initiative is part of the Holistic Network Design model, funded by frameworks like Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment, and aligned with projects under the RIIO-T2 and RIIO-T/3 price control settlements. The framework comprises a selective procurement method using a negotiated procedure with prior call for competition. The contract framework is active, with multiple contracts already signed by December 2024, detailing work to extend up to 10 years depending on SPT's strategic requirements.

This procurement process creates substantial opportunities for businesses in the construction and engineering sectors as part of a collaborative approach to deliver strategic substation works. Particularly, businesses specializing in substation construction, civil engineering, and electrical works are well-suited to benefit from these frameworks. Large-scale companies will find opportunities in high-value areas like design and construction of substations, while SMEs, like Adman Civil Projects Limited, can engage in niche areas like enabling and civil works. The framework agreement supports business growth through guaranteed infrastructure projects over several years, fostering an environment where consistent work packages and strategic collaboration drive both company expansion and a move towards achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
