Summary of the contracting process

The Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust is in the final stages of awarding a contract for Grounds and Gardens Maintenance Service across its sites. The procurement process, which followed the Open Procedure under the UK Public Contract Regulations 2015, has concluded with the contract being awarded to Countrywide Grounds Maintenance Limited. This contract, valued at £816,300, commenced on 16th January 2025 and is set to run for five years, with the possibility of extending up to a total of seven years. This initiative falls under the services category and aims to maintain the high standard of grounds across the Trust’s key urban centres including Maidstone, Medway, and Canterbury, with a significant focus on meeting the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and NHS Patient lead assessments of the care environment (PLACE).

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in landscaping and maintenance services. Companies capable of delivering high-quality grass cutting, shrub maintenance, hedge trimming, and cleaning of pathways free of moss, along with periodic tasks such as tree surveys and young tree maintenance, are well-suited to compete. The contract not only offers a significant revenue stream but also provides a platform for businesses to showcase their capabilities in maintaining healthcare environments to stringent standards, thereby enhancing their reputation and portfolio. The collaboration with a large Mental Health NHS Trust, servicing a population of 1.8 million people, enables businesses to contribute to creating a cared-for environment, which aligns with a commitment to service improvement and value for money.
