Summary of the contracting process

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has awarded a contract for the "Bitesize Adaptive Learning" project, focusing on e-learning services, specifically targeting young learners aged 14-16 in the UK. This initiative involves piloting an adaptive learning platform to assist with GCSE exam preparations and potentially expanding to all education key stages. The awarded contract is valued at £1.5 million over a potential five-year term, with an initial one-year pilot phase funded at £200,000. The procurement was conducted via an open procedure under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, with the award decision made on 11 November 2024. The delivery of services will be carried out by Adaptemy, operating from Dublin, Ireland.

This tender offers significant business growth opportunities for companies engaged in personalised e-learning technologies and educational service provision. Companies with robust adaptive learning platforms, interactive content delivery systems, and experience in educational progress tracking would be well-suited to compete for such contracts. The BBC’s interest in long-term engagement and potentially expanding adaptive learning across various educational stages presents a lucrative opportunity for businesses capable of delivering innovative and scalable e-learning solutions. The initial pilot and prospective extensions provide ample chances for sustained business partnerships and market expansion in the educational technology sector.

Bitesize Adaptive Learning

Notice Description

BBC Bitesize is looking to pilot a new adaptive learning experience to address audience needs. The pilot will focus on providing this experience to young people aged 14-16 in the United Kingdom, including learners preparing for their GCSE exams. In the longer term, Bitesize hopes to launch this to all education key stages (including primary). The adaptive learning experience will adopt a micro-learning approach to both longer-term learning for each curriculum key stage and exam revision, serving up content and assessment questions best suited to each individual learner, tracking educational progress in an interactive dashboard, and providing incentives and rewards for user engagement and achievement. We are interested in working with an organisation that has established capabilities, products or services which deliver personalised adaptive learning and revision experiences for young learners.
