Summary of the contracting process

Museum Wales, also known as Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, is in the planning stage of a procurement process titled "Specialist trade, supply and installation of Grade 2 listed glasshouses in aluminium and timber." This tender, classified under the "Repair and maintenance services of building installations" (CPV: 50700000) category, focuses on the restoration of two Victorian glasshouses situated in the UKL22 region, with the procurement phase currently detailed as "planned." The Flower House, a ¾ lean-to glasshouse, is intended to be replaced with an aluminium replica, while the Vinery, a free-standing and Grade 2 listed glasshouse, will be replaced or restored in timber. The building works are projected to begin by March 2025, contingent on the progression of the procurement schedule. A call for market interest and subsequent formal tenders will be released with a future notice expected on 2nd December 2024.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for businesses specialising in building restoration, particularly those with expertise in both aluminium and timber constructions. Companies equipped with skills in fabrication and installation of glasshouse structures, including the provision of mechanical, electrical and ventilation systems, will find this project aligns well with their capabilities. Businesses capable of managing heritage restorations and compliance with preservation regulations will have a competitive edge. Engagement in this project could significantly bolster a firm's portfolio in high-profile restoration works, aligning with the cultural and heritage sector spearheaded by a reputable institution like Museum Wales.
