Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) in Northern Ireland is overseeing the procurement process titled "DfI Transport and Road Asset Management - Provision of Service and Maintenance of Commercial Vehicles over 3500kg". The procurement falls under the industry category of Repair and Maintenance Services and involves multiple workshops located throughout Northern Ireland, including Ballymena, Coleraine, Omagh, Enniskillen, Armagh, and Craigavon. The current procurement stage is the award, with contracts having been signed on 3rd January 2025. The total estimated contract value is £6 million, equally divided across six lots, each awarded to different suppliers. The procurement method employed is an open procedure, aligned with the Directives of 2014/24/EU.

This tender offers substantial growth opportunities for businesses specialising in vehicle maintenance and repair services. With separate lots for each workshop, businesses can bid for multiple lots without a limit, increasing their chances of securing substantial work. The contracts guarantee scheduled maintenance work due to insufficient in-house DfI personnel, ensuring a steady workflow for contractors. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specialising in vehicle maintenance, fleet management, and related services are particularly well-suited to compete for these contracts, enabling them to expand their service portfolios and enhance their market presence in Northern Ireland.
