Contract Summary
There is a requirement to provide a Level 4 HNC Marine Engineering course to internally identified high achieving apprentices enrolled within the Level 3 Waterfront Apprentice Scheme. This will allow HNC delivery to be incorporated during phase two and three of the Level 3 Waterfront Apprenticeship scheme improving the engineering competence of identified individuals that graduate from the scheme so that when they enter the business permanently, their advanced capability will become of benefit from day one. The requirement also provides a defined route for ‘high potential’ individuals to progress onto Level 4 qualifications during their apprenticeship or immediately after their apprenticeship has successfully been concluded leading to increased attraction in the Apprenticeship Scheme. The number of individuals undertaking the HNC is expected to vary each year, with a maximum number from September 2025 being 30. The HNC will be accessible to high achievers with a desire to complete the HNC during their Waterfront Apprenticeship scheme.

Contract Summary
There is a continuing demand to provide engineering apprentices to SDA’s engineering function through the continuation of bespoke SDA apprenticeship schemes, which are necessary to support the Engineering strategy. The Nuclear Degree Apprenticeship has a duration of up to 4 years, spanning 5 financial years for each intake. The apprentices’ first year shall be spent full-time at college (with workshop type training) and years 2 to 4 as a mixture of further academic study and work placements within SDA project teams. This will result in both technical and academic qualification (ultimately a bachelor's degree) together with workplace experience providing a beneficial mix of technical knowledge, and broader Success Profile development. Scheme provision is for up to 30 apprentices per each academic year (for 3 years). The scheme has (and intends to continue to do so) exploited the Apprentice Levy which provides a significant amount of the training cost of the scheme. In order to use the Levy, approved standards must be adopted. Currently this is: ST0289 Nuclear Scientist and Engineer (Level 6).
