Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Procurement Services (hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust), acting as the buyer, has concluded the procurement process for the "Purchase of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) Consumables". This tender falls under the medical consumables industry category, with a specific focus on items necessary for hyperthermia therapy used in advanced abdominal cancer treatments. Situated in the UK (region UKL22), the procurement process has reached the award stage, with the contract being awarded to Gamida SA. The total value of the contract is GBP 56,000, and it was officially signed on 30 September 2024. This award follows an open tender procedure initially conducted in 2022, with the recent procurement being executed via a limited method to ensure the continuity of services.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in the supply of medical consumables, specifically those that can deliver specialised equipment and materials for innovative cancer treatments like HIPEC. Companies with expertise in manufacturing or distributing medical supplies that enhance surgical outcomes will find this procurement especially relevant. The direct award to Gamida SA highlights the need for reliability and continuity in medical service provisions, suggesting that established suppliers with proven performance records in similar healthcare projects would be highly competitive in such tenders. This procurement reflects a considerable investment in ongoing patient care and advanced medical treatments, offering sustained business growth potential for suitable providers.
