Summary of the contracting process

Translink, the principal public transport provider in Northern Ireland, is planning a market engagement and information gathering exercise for the Asset Renewal of the ‘Enterprise’ train fleet, which services the route between Dublin Connolly and Belfast Grand Central. This process, currently in the planning stage, targets experienced contractors capable of undertaking significant maintenance and refurbishment tasks, including Generator Engine Overhaul, Bodywork Repairs, and Catering Equipment replacement. Key activities focus on refreshing various components of the train fleet, dating back to 1997, to ensure continued reliability and safety. Interested parties are encouraged to register their interest, as Translink intends to engage with potential suppliers in December 2024 and January 2025, leading up to a potential future procurement process under the Utilities Contracts Regulations 2016.

This tender represents a substantial opportunity for businesses specialising in railway maintenance and refurbishment. Companies with a proven track record of delivering projects in a rail environment or those who hold relevant safety certifications are best suited to compete. By participating, these businesses can not only expand their portfolio but also contribute significantly to the cross-border transport infrastructure of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The engagement phase will help shape the final tender specifications, providing valuable insights and positioning interested firms advantageously for the upcoming procurement.
