Summary of the contracting process

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has initiated a procurement process to refurbish and modify Building 47 as a new neutron measurement facility, equipped with the Van de Graaff accelerator, in Teddington, UK. The procurement is in the planning stage, with key dates including an anticipated future notice date on 16th December 2024. This project, valued at £5,000,000, falls under the "Building construction work" category (CPV code 45210000) and aims to enhance the UK’s nuclear energy, defence, and fusion research sectors, aligning with the UK government's strategic energy roadmap announced in January 2024.

This tender presents significant business growth opportunities, particularly for firms specialising in construction, engineering, and environmental sustainability. The chosen contractor will be responsible for the design and build, utilising an open procedure single stage tender, following JCT Design and Build contracts. Businesses with expertise in modern laboratory refurbishments, net-zero carbon designs, and compliance with BREEAM standards will find this project especially relevant. The refurbishment will include state-of-the-art facilities across multiple floors, making it a prime opportunity for enterprises experienced in large-scale infrastructure projects.
