Summary of the contracting process

NHS National Services Scotland, acting for NHS Scotland health boards, special health boards and the relevant authority, procured a framework for flexible video endoscopy consumables and single-use scopes. The goods cover decontamination and ancillary products, ERCP and EUS products, therapeutic instruments, diagnostic instruments, stents, and single-use endoscopes. The single-use scope requirement spans pulmonology and respiratory care, anaesthesia and critical care, ENT, gastroenterology and urology, for adult and paediatric use. Contracts for stents and single-use scopes were signed on 20 June 2025; decontamination, therapeutic instruments and diagnostic instruments on 24 June 2025; and ERCP and EUS on 30 June 2025. A further active framework contract covering the overall requirement is valued at £48,000,000 for 1,440 days and was signed on 24 June 2025. Evaluation weighted cost at 50%, quality at 30%, support and service at 10%, and sustainability at 10%.

This outcome shows established NHS Scotland demand across the full endoscopy consumables market, with multiple suppliers appointed to each specialist area rather than a single supplier. Relevant competitors include manufacturers, distributors and specialist medical-device SMEs supplying endoscopy instrumentation, stents, decontamination products and single-use scopes. A credible future supplier would need a demonstrable range for one or more relevant clinical specialities, detailed technical specifications, compatibility with clinical equipment, dependable supply and delivery across NHS Scotland, and effective support and service. Products must meet applicable regulatory standards; single-use scopes must be ready for immediate use, support patient safety and avoid reprocessing. Bidders also needed three years of general and relevant business turnover, plus employers’, public and product liability insurance of at least £5 million each.

Therapeutic Instrument

The scope of this Lot includes all main instrumentation used during Flexible Video Endoscopy treatments. It is anticipated that the scope of this Lot will include: Clipping Devices, Polypectomy Snares, Spray Catheters, Balloon Dilation/Inflation Device, Variceal Ligation and single use Scope. Additional information: This Lot is awarded to 11 suppliers.

NHS Scotland are seeking suppliers to provide single-use endoscopes as part of an upcoming tender framework to provide therapeutic and/or diagnostic support to a variety of clinical specialties. These should offer high-quality imaging, enhanced safety through single-use design, and ease of use across multiple medical and surgical procedures. All products must meet relevant regulatory standards. Suppliers are not required to provide endoscopes that cover all specialities and may offer product for one or more of the specialities named below. Scope Specialties Required: Pulmonology/Respiratory, Anaesthesia and Critical Care, ENT, Gastroenterology , Urology. (Adult +/- paediatric use). We require suppliers to provide detailed specifications of their range of single-use endoscopes, including but not limited to speciality use function, dimensions of endoscopes available within the range offered, materials, compatibility with relevant medical equipment, and any other relevant features. The endoscopes must be ready for immediate use, with no reprocessing required, and designed to prevent cross-contamination and ensure patient safety Additional information: This Lot was awarded to 13 Suppliers
