Summary of the contracting process

Scottish Natural Heritage, a national agency for environmental protection, is planning the procurement of cloud-based GIS software and services. This initiative involves a GIS transformation programme to refresh and migrate NatureScot's GIS infrastructure to a cloud platform. The procurement stage is currently in the planning phase, with responses to preliminary questions due by 28 March 2025. The procurement exercise is expected to commence in summer 2025, with a contract notice anticipated in Q2 2025. This tender falls under the category of mapping software development services and is located in the UK.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses capable of providing comprehensive GIS infrastructure solutions or individual components hosted in a cloud environment. Companies specialising in cloud solutions, advanced GIS technologies, and managed services for GIS infrastructure would be well-suited to compete. There is a particular interest in open-source technologies, which could present a new market entry point for innovative solutions. Additionally, firms offering robust support services in set-up, maintenance, and training are encouraged to respond, presenting a valuable chance to contribute to a large-scale technological transformation within NatureScot.

Notice Title

Provision of Cloud GIS Software & Services

Notice Description

With almost every activity in NatureScot revolving around location, Geographic Information Systems (GIS)] and geospatial data play a vital role across the full breadth of our organisation. We are currently undertaking a GIS transformation programme that will see NatureScot's GIS infrastructure and services refreshed and migrated to a Cloud platform. We expect to commence a procurement exercise in the summer of 2025 and first wish to obtain information from current market providers to help us further develop our requirement specifications. We are interested to learn to what extent you can help with a variety of technology components and/or support services. We are particularly interested to hear about open-source technologies, as we have less experience in this area, but are open to any technology. We would also be interested to explore managed service options for some, or all, of our proposed GIS enterprise architecture.
