Summary of the contracting process

The University of Kent initiated a public procurement process to address rainwater ingress at the Dolche Vita restaurant on the Canterbury campus, which required skilled contractors for remediation work. The tender, titled "Keynes College Dolche Vita Leak Remediation," falls within the construction and building maintenance sector, particularly focusing on the installation of doors, windows, and related components, as well as repair services. This tender was conducted as an open competition, beginning with the tender stage and resulting in an award. The related contract commenced on 16th June 2025 and concluded on 28th July 2025. The procurement process was governed under UK legislation 2023/54, and the initial tender period concluded on 22nd April 2025.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in construction and building maintenance services, particularly those experienced in replacing windows and addressing structural issues. SMEs such as Coleman & James (Services) Ltd, the awarded supplier, are ideal candidates for such projects due to the scope and budget involved. Businesses looking to expand their portfolio with projects from public authorities like sub-central government organisations can leverage this opportunity to enhance industry presence and potentially secure future contracts with the University of Kent and similar institutions. The open competition method ensures a level playing field for qualified contractors to demonstrate their capabilities competitively.
