Summary of the contracting process

Transport for London (TfL), acting as the procuring entity, completed a competitive flexible procedure under the Procurement Act 2023 for the Bridges and Civil Structures Maintenance Contract. The contract was awarded to M Group Transport (Rail and Aviation) Ltd for the provision of planned preventative and reactive maintenance services for infrastructure including bridges and civil structures in the United Kingdom. Initially spanning a five-year period with an option to extend for three additional years, the contract was finalised and signed on 7th April 2026, with operations commencing from 1st April 2026. The procurement process utilised a selective method, ensuring thorough evaluation to uphold safety standards across TfL's network, focusing on non-trackside railway structures.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the rail maintenance sector, particularly those experienced in structural maintenance and interventions, vegetation management, and civil asset protective coatings. Companies with a strong technical and commercial capability in infrastructure services such as brick and girder maintenance, cable post interventions, and asset inspection support, are well-suited to compete for similar opportunities in future. The successful contract with M Group Transport highlights the potential for substantial business growth, as firms engage with TfL to deliver crucial services that ensure the safe operation of London’s extensive transport networks. With a budget exceeding GBP 119 million, the procurement allows additional related purchases under the contract's options, offering further business engagement for skilled suppliers.
