Summary of the contracting process

The Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), along with the Environment Agency, is planning a tender process for the Feasibility, Design, Supply, Installation, and Maintenance of Ultrasonic River Flow Gauges. This procurement falls under the services category with a focus on river regulation and flood control works. The procurement method is an open, competitive flexible procedure. Interested suppliers are invited to express their interest by 31st July 2025, with the expected contract start date on 1st October 2025. This opportunity is based in London, and the estimated contract value is £8,000,000, spanning five years from 2025 to 2030.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses with expertise in the design, supply, installation, and maintenance of ultrasonic flow measurement systems. Companies specialising in feasibility studies, environmental compliance, and project management will find this particularly relevant. The Environment Agency is seeking suppliers who can meet high technical standards and provide ongoing maintenance support for over 200 existing river flow gauges. SMEs and VCSEs are encouraged to participate, as the tender process is designed to be open and inclusive. The successful implementation of these systems will enhance flood forecasting and water resource management, benefiting local communities and contributing to nationwide environmental goals.
