Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process, initiated by The Common Services Agency, known as NHS National Services Scotland (NSS), seeks the supply of psychiatry and neurology medicines, classified under the pharmaceutical products category (CPV: 33600000), to various entities under the NHS Scotland. This open procurement process will establish a framework agreement with a potential for a twelve-month extension after the initial thirty-six month period. The procurement involves multiple lots, including specific drugs such as carbamazepine and lamotrigine, and is set to cover the region of Scotland (UKM) according to the NHS Scotland framework. The tender process, active as of 23rd April 2025, includes a tender submission deadline of 23rd May 2025 with the period for its commencement on that same date, ensuring it follows an open procedure with an electronic submission method for transparency and efficiency.

This tender provides substantial opportunities for large pharmaceutical suppliers, particularly those equipped with the necessary certifications like UK Marketing Authorisation and ISO 9001, to compete in Scotland's public sector. With a focus on price and logistics, firms that can leverage their logistical capabilities while maintaining competitive pricing would find this contract appealing. The opportunity further extends to fostering business growth through the development of community benefits within the local region, aligning with the NHS Scotland Community Benefits Gateway. This scheme not only supports local organisations but also enhances a supplier’s corporate responsibility profile, indicating that firms with a strong interest in community engagement will have a favourable consideration.
