Notice Information
Notice Title
Total Body PET-CT Scanner
Notice Description
A total-body/long-axial-FoV PET-CT system (TB PET-CT) to be used for its predominantly oncology clinical PET service, as well as research both locally and for the wider/national community. Contract Value: If the extension periods are entered into and options taken, the value is anticipated to be in the region of PS6.9million.
Lot Information
Lot 1
Options: As an optional extra, the Contrating Authority requires a specification and costing for the installation of a rapid-access, high capacity image archive compatible with the Total Body PET-CT system, suitable for storing up to 1 petabyte of image data. The specification should include installation of the high bandwidth connection between the associated scanner workstations to enable rapid archiving and retrieval. We are still exploring options for archive provision, and would like further information about the requirements of such an archive for this TB PET-CT system and the cost of the scanner manufacturer providing this system as part of the scanner purchase.
Renewal: Extensions will be used for additional years of maintenance cover
Planning Information
The Christie team keep abreast of developments in imaging technology as part of their ongoing professional development, but specific market engagement regarding Total Body PET-CT began in July 2022 with the Medical Research Council’s call for expressions of interest regarding establishing Total Body PET-CT facilities, primarily for research. The Christie, and local partners, submitted an EoI and were subsequently invited to submit a full bid. In preparation for this, a team from The Christie (funded by the Christie) independently arranged visits to the Total Body PET-CT scanners in Copenhagen and Sacramento (February 2023). The bid was submitted in March 2023 and was unsuccessful. The Christie team continued to pursue alternative sources for funding. Local potential funding opportunities were identified in June 2024 and work began to secure this funding and firm up revised plans for the Total Body PET-CT facility. Meetings to discuss the current Total Body PET-CT offerings between The Christie team and manufacturers of Total Body systems were held on The Christie site between June and August 2024, with more detailed discussions of system features and potential scientific collaboration opportunities from December 2024 to February 2025 to finalise the tender specification. An additional online meeting was organised to discuss potential digital archive systems in February 2025.
