Summary of the contracting process

Suffolk County Council has announced the Independent Travel Training tender, focused on providing training to Suffolk residents, including those with disabilities, mental health challenges, and learning needs, to ensure they can use public transport safely and independently. This service aims to impart valuable life skills and potentially reduce dependency on council-provided transport. The procurement process is in the active stage under an open procedure. Valued at £3,192,000, including VAT, the contract spans several years from April 2026, with potential for an optional two-year extension. This tender provides a substantial opportunity for businesses specialising in education and training services, especially those experienced in working with individuals with specific needs. Firms that offer innovative solutions for independent travel training can leverage this contract to expand their footprint in the public sector. This project prioritises quality, including social value, with a weighting of 60% for quality and 40% for price. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), are particularly encouraged to participate, presenting a significant growth avenue for businesses aiming to enhance their service offerings in alignment with public authority needs.
