Summary of the contracting process

NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership Procurement Services is buying orthopaedic products, equipment and related services for NHS Wales organisations. The 13 lots cover shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand and finger, foot and ankle, hip and knee treatments; trauma and paediatric orthopaedics; maxillofacial fixation; arthroscopy; bone cement; regenerative technologies; and orthopaedic power tools, capital equipment, software, maintenance and consumables. Products include implants, joint replacement and reconstruction systems, fixation devices, prostheses and specialist surgical systems. Spinal products are excluded. The framework is intended to give participating NHS organisations a consistent procurement route, with ordering through an electronic catalogue and the option of volume or time-based commitments, including collaborative commitments between organisations. Deliveries are for NHS organisations across Wales.

Framework Overview NWSSP Procurement Services is seeking to establish a multi supplier framework agreement to meet the national requirements of NHS Wales for orthopaedic, joint replacement, trauma and extremity products. The framework will provide all participating NHS organisations with access to a consistent, standardised and compliant procurement solution. Exclusions Spinal products are expressly excluded from the scope of this framework agreement. Participating Organisations NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership Procurement Services (hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust) is conducting this procurement on behalf of the following NHS Wales organisations: Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board Hywel Dda University Health Board Powys Teaching Health Board Swansea Bay University Health Board Velindre University Health Board Future Participation NWSSP Procurement Services reserves the right to include additional NHS Wales organisations within the scope of the framework agreement at any time during its term. Any such additions will be made following consultation with all appointed framework suppliers.

Upper Extremity - Hand & Finger

Small joint reconstruction systems and associated prosthetic arthroplasty solutions.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Lower Extremity - Foot & Ankle

Foot and ankle reconstruction systems, total ankle replacement systems, diabetic foot surgery products, and associated implants.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Trauma: Internal and External Fixation and Consumables

Internal fixation systems, external fixation systems, emergency trauma implants, congenital correction implants, and associated consumables.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Maxillofacial Fixation and Consumables (Max Fax)

Maxillofacial implants and consumables for craniofacial reconstruction and trauma procedures.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Paediatric Orthopaedics (Trauma & Elective)

Paediatric orthopaedic implants and fixation systems for trauma and elective procedures.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Arthroscopy (Sports Medicine)

Arthroscopy systems, stack systems, soft tissue fixation products, resection systems, ablation devices, specialist instrumentation, and disposables.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Bone Cement

Bone cement systems, mixing systems, pulse lavage systems, bone substitutes, cement removal systems, and associated products.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Orthopaedic Power Tools, Consumables, & Capital Equipment

Power tools, robotics, navigation systems, fluid management systems, orthopaedic capital equipment, wearable technologies, applications, software solutions, and associated consumables and maintenance services.

Renewal: Option to extend for 12 months that will be agreed with stakeholder group

Regenerative Technology

Biologic and synthetic bone substitutes, soft tissue substitutes, platelet separation systems, LIPUS devices, and regenerative medicine technologies.

Hip

Primary total hip replacement, revision hip reconstruction, and hemiarthroplasty procedures.
