There is an intention to direct award a procurement in the coming weeks for the provision of: Integration of the Sting Ray MOD1 Torpedo (SR1) onto the Poseidon 8 (P-8) aircraft. This would include demonstration, manufacture but may also cover in-service support requirements. Category C Contract Goods between PS10 and PS20 Million CPV Code: 35300000

The single source justification is based upon technical reasons: primarily BAE having specific Sting Ray technical expertise and knowledge spanning over 26 years when they acquired the OEMs who developed and manufactured the weapon. No other economic operator hold this specific technical expertise, experience or engineering capability that is required to safely deliver the integration whilst maintaining current levels of weapon effectiveness. BAE also possess the unique techniques, tooling and test equipment required to undertake the integration and testing requirements effectively without exposing the programme with unacceptable levels of engineering and safety risk.
