Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process under discussion involves Babergh District Council and Mid Suffolk District Council, focusing on Fire Remedial Works, a project that addresses remedial actions following Fire Risk Assessments and planned roof compartmentation works. Located in Ipswich, UK, this procurement falls under the construction industry category and is currently at the award stage, with the award notice published on 23 January 2026. The procurement method employed is a selective competitive flexible procedure, and the contract, divided into two lots, starts on 1 April 2026, running up to potentially 31 March 2031, including a renewal option. The initial contract period spans three years, with potential extensions based on performance reviews, summing up to a possible maximum of five years.

This contract offers significant growth opportunities for businesses within the construction and fire safety industries, particularly those specialising in passive fire systems and related installation services. SMEs, in particular, are well-positioned to benefit from this tender, as the procurement process indicates that a substantial portion of final stage bids were from such businesses. Companies that can supply and install fire protection equipment, including fire doors, sealing systems, and other protective measures, would be well-suited to compete. The flexible procedure adopted by Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils ensures competitive opportunities, with a preference for technically-qualified and economically-sounded suppliers.
