Airport Route Upgrades
Notice Description
Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive t/a Nexus are seeking to appoint a Principal Contractor to carry out and complete the Airport Route Upgrade works between Newcastle International Airport station and Longbenton (Tyne and Wear). The upgrade works consists of the replacement and renewal of permanent way assets and overhead line equipment. This will include renewal of specified areas of track, which have reached the end of their serviceable life, tamping to achieve a new through alignment, offloading ballast and stressing along with replacing an existing fixed tension overhead line system with a new automatically tensioned system. Certain civil engineering and signalling activities may also form part of the overall scope.
Planning Information
25th August is the deadline by which applications to attend the engagement workshop must be made. The Preliminary Market Engagement workshop will take place 12th September 2025 in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The workshop will provide an overview of the project to potential interested parties and we aim to gain helpful insights to aid our programme and approach to market. Please register your interest by close of business Monday 25th August using Nexus procurement portal : https://www.nepo.org/open All applications to attend the event and clarifications must be made via this portal. There are restrictions on the number of attendees. In the event Nexus receives more than 30 requests to attend they will randomly select suppliers to attend the event. Please see preliminary market engagement information on the portal for full information and instruction on registering your interest.
