Summary of the contracting process

Cambridgeshire County Council is in the planning stage of a procurement process for a new mobile library specifically focusing on vehicle fuel types. This process involves a premarket engagement exercise to understand the best options available. The engagement aims to gather insights on vehicle fuel types for a new library service vehicle to operate in Fenland, United Kingdom. Key dates include an engagement window from 29 June 2026 to 14 July 2026 with the procurement expected to be published in late July 2026. The procurement falls under the industry category of specialist vehicles, including mobile library and electric vehicles, and involves substantial opportunities worth up to £300,000. The intended contract period starts on 1 December 2026 and ends on 30 November 2028, with the possibility of renewal.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses involved in the construction and outfitting of specialist vehicles, particularly those experienced with mobile or electric libraries. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to consider participation due to tailored suitability criteria. The project offers a platform for business growth by allowing the selected supplier to showcase innovative solutions and custom engineering skills in creating a fully functional mobile library. Engaging in this tender not only opens the door for immediate business opportunities but also establishes a long-term relationship with a public authority, which could lead to future projects and collaborations. Interested parties can contact the procurement lead, Paul Tamanis-Laing, for further information and document access.
