Summary of the contracting process

Cambridgeshire County Council has awarded The Electric Transport Shop Ltd the contract for the "Cargo Bike Try Before You Buy Phase Two" initiative. Focused on expanding its successful scheme since 2021, the Council aims to introduce eCargo bikes in new locations within the Huntingdon locality, in the United Kingdom. The contract commenced on 3 December 2025 and is set to run until 29 February 2028, with a potential extension up to 2030 contingent on project success and available funding. Procured through an open competition method, the initiative belongs to the services category and covers repair and maintenance services and transport services excluding waste transport. The procurement process is complete with the award confirmed active as of 7 November 2025.

This contract represents a valuable opportunity for businesses specialising in electric transport solutions, particularly SMEs well-versed in eCargo bike sales and maintenance services. The involvement of small and medium enterprises can foster growth in sustainable transport options, with potential long-term engagements as the scheme may extend beyond the initial contract period. The opportunity allows businesses to collaborate closely with Cambridgeshire County Council, ensuring active participation in local transport enhancements. Those in the transport and maintenance services sector, especially those utilizing innovative, eco-friendly methods, stand to benefit significantly from this scheme.
