Summary of the contracting process

Stairlifts and Lifting Equipment Framework 2026 is a public procurement initiative spearheaded by the Northern Housing Consortium and managed by the buyer located at Hope Street Xchange in Sunderland, UK. Following the planning phase initiated on 21st August 2025, the procurement transitioned through tender and award stages and finally reached contract completion on 11th May 2026. Contracts were signed as early as 24th April 2026 for periods running until April 2030, with gross contract values reaching up to £24 million. This comprehensive framework covers the design, supply, installation, servicing, and maintenance of stairlifts and lifting equipment, including hoists, slings, and platform lifts, spanning multiple regions across the United Kingdom. The procurement method employed was an open procedure, designed to engage a wide variety of suppliers through a competitive process.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for business growth, particularly for SMEs specializing in mechanical lifts, repair, and maintenance services. With a framework agreement offering the flexibility of direct and ranked awards, as well as further competitive opportunities across multiple lots, businesses can leverage strategic advantages by securing substantial and long-term contracts. Both large companies and small to medium enterprises can benefit, with a particular emphasis on firms offering innovative solutions in the lifting equipment sector. As part of the framework, member organisations have the ability to commission works through specialised suppliers, creating numerous opportunities for firms to establish or expand their presence in the public sector market nationwide.
