Summary of the contracting process

The NHS England has recently concluded a contract related to the Prescription Exemption Checking Service (PECS) for the period of 2025/2026, situated in the United Kingdom. This procurement, categorised under statutory audit services, involved overseeing prescription claims exempt from payment by cross-referencing these claims with existing exemption schemes and relevant records. The NHS Business Services Authority (NHS BSA) was delegated this task under a direct award procurement method, as outlined by the NHS Business Services Authority Directions 2015. The procurement stage reflects a completed status as of the latest update on 9 June 2026, with the implementation period initially set from 1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026.

This procurement process presents business growth opportunities predominantly for large-scale organisations similar to NHS BSA, given the specialised nature of the service involving technical expertise in audit and verification of prescription exemptions. Although the contract for this period has been terminated following its completion, understanding the procurement process and service requirements can inform businesses contemplating future participation in similar tenders. Companies offering services in auditing and fraud detection, particularly those with experience in public sector contracts and healthcare services, are well-suited competitors for such tenders managed by central government authorities.
