Summary of the contracting process

Taunton Town Council has engaged in a procurement process to support its Wildflower Recovery Project, aiming to deliver a strategy throughout the town centre, parks, and open spaces in Taunton, UK. The Council, classified as a sub-central government public authority, is applying for funding from the National Lottery Heritage Nature Grant, which could potentially fund the project up to £45,000. This open competition procurement process commenced with a tender update on 17th October 2025, followed by active participation from parties such as Bumblebee Conservation Trust. The procurement is part of a larger effort to tackle ecological issues, with contractual commitments extending from April 2026 to March 2029. The final award has been made, and the procurement stage is now in the award phase as of 29th April 2026.

This tender offers substantial opportunities for growth, particularly for businesses specialised in horticultural services and those capable of providing seeding services. With a focus on native species recovery, this project is ideally suited for entities committed to environmental sustainability, including large-scale providers and VCSEs (Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprises). The project encourages innovative approaches in using varying funding levels, providing businesses with the flexibility to adapt their proposals to either a £25,000 or £45,000 budget. This creates potential for businesses to leverage community engagement components to enhance educational elements, thereby aligning commercial growth with community impact.

Notice Title

Wildflower Recovery Project

Notice Description

Taunton Town Council are currently applying for funding from the National Lottery Heritage Nature Grant to deliver a Wildflower Recovery Strategy throughout our town center, parks and open spaces. If successful, the project will receive potential funding of up to PS45,000. If we are unsuccessful in the nature bid, the budget of the project will decrease from up to PS45,000 to PS25,000 exc VAT. Please provide two options for each section of the tender as you apply with 'Option 1 - Up To PS45,000' and 'Option 2 - PS25,000 exc VAT' to show how you will approach the project under the differing funding potentials. You may split the funding approach however you see fit, for example you may choose to use the additional funding to incorporate more locations across the town to increase wildflower cover, or use the additional funding for more focus on community engagement to help with a long term maintenance strategy. Please provide justifications for why you are choosing to allocate the amount of funding in the areas you are doing so.
