Summary of the contracting process

West Northamptonshire Council is currently in the tender stage for a development project titled "Wantage Park Crematorium," located in Round Spinney, Northampton, UK. This project, valued at approximately £9.1 million, aims to deliver a state-of-the-art crematorium and wake facility designed to meet the growing needs of the West Northamptonshire community, with features that promote sustainability and biodiversity. The procurement follows a Competitive Flexible Procedure under the Procurement Act 2023, involving a two-stage process: PSQ (Procurement Specific Questionnaire) and ITT (Invitation to Tender). Key dates include the expression of interest deadline on 21 January 2026 and expected construction start on 8 August 2026, with site visits scheduled for early February 2026. The facility is anticipated to be open by August 2027.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for contractors with experience in crematorium construction, offering chances for business growth by participating in a major infrastructure project. The inclusive design, intended to serve diverse community needs, and the emphasis on sustainable construction present an attractive proposition for businesses specialising in these areas. Suitable businesses are those with a proven track record in building crematoriums and who can demonstrate financial robustness and technical capability through the procurement stages. Successful bidders will have the chance to partake in the initial pre-construction phase, followed by full project implementation, potentially establishing long-term relations with the West Northamptonshire Council.
