Summary of the contracting process

Scottish Water has initiated a tender process for the 'Screens and Screenings Handling' project, focusing on the construction and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant systems. This procurement falls under the 'works' category, specifically targeting the wastewater treatment plant construction industry. The project is set in Scotland, covering areas including the Highlands and Islands. This tender is currently in the tender stage, with a submission deadline amended to 5th December 2025. It involves designing, supplying, installing, and servicing screens and screenings handling systems, with compliance to British and Scottish Water standards. The framework has an initial duration of four years, with two potential two-year extensions, totalling approximately £7 million for Lot 1 and £3 million for Lot 2.

Businesses engaged in design and construction of wastewater treatment systems, particularly those experienced in operating under Scottish environmental standards, would find this tender an excellent opportunity for growth. The emphasis on compliance, system integration, and after-sales support means companies specializing in technical solutions for wastewater management would be well-suited. Additionally, firms advocating for environmental sustainability and waste reduction as part of their service delivery are likely to align well with Scottish Water's Beyond Net Zero strategy. With a procurement method involving a negotiated procedure with prior competition, businesses have the chance to demonstrate their technical expertise and value propositions effectively.
