Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero is planning a public procurement process for the provision of travel and accommodation services related to inspections by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) across the UK, including Northern Ireland. The planned procurement, titled "Travel and Accommodation for OPCW," falls under the industry category of services, specifically accommodation and travel management. The procurement will be carried out using an open procedure and is currently in the planning stage, with a procurement notice published on 3 December 2025. Key dates include the preliminary market engagement webinar scheduled for 15 December 2025, with expressions of interest due by 12 December 2025. The tender period for submissions is until 16 February 2026, and the award period concludes by 16 March 2026. The contract, valued at £240,000 gross (£200,000 net), is expected to commence on 1 April 2026 and may be renewed for an additional year, extending potentially until March 2030.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in transportation and accommodation services, with particular suitability for SMEs and VCSEs. Given the requirement for services at short notice, companies experienced in rapid response logistics would be well-positioned to compete. Participation in the market engagement session on 15 December offers a chance for suppliers to influence procurement strategy, allowing businesses to align their offerings with the needs of this central government contract. Companies capable of managing flexible and comprehensive service delivery across the UK stand to benefit from both initial contract opportunities and potential renewals.
