Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero is currently in the Planning stage for a public procurement process titled "Travel and Accommodation for Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)". This procurement is situated under the services industry category and is aimed at providing transportation and accommodation services, including coach and driver services, as well as accommodation booking, for inspections anywhere in the UK, including Northern Ireland. The opportunity is valued at approximately £240,000 gross and covers a contract period from 1st April 2026 to 31st March 2029, with a potential extension to 31st March 2030. Key dates include a Preliminary Market Engagement Webinar scheduled for 15th December 2025, with expressions of interest to be submitted by 12th December 2025.

This opportunity opens avenues for growth for businesses specialising in travel and accommodation management services, especially those capable of delivering at short notice. It presents a significant chance for SMEs and VCSEs to enter into a central government contract. Providers with a robust logistical network and the capability to manage bookings swiftly would be well-suited for this tender, given the tight timelines required for service provision. The open procurement method invites fair competition, offering a noteworthy opportunity to establish or expand into government contracting for services linked to international compliance inspections under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
