Summary of the contracting process

The recent procurement process led by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero, located in London, involved an open procedure for the title "Travel and Accommodation for Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)". This contract is categorised under services in the industry and is significant in terms of scope as it spans locations across the UK, including Northern Ireland. The process was initiated as a tender, advancing to the award stage on 18th June 2026, with the contract starting from 1st July 2026 and scheduled to run until 30th June 2029, with a possible 12-month extension. The contract, valued at £200,000 net, was awarded to Selwyn's Travel Ltd, a large UK-based supplier, to demand quick response coach and accommodation services for OPCW inspections.

This procurement presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in transportation and accommodation services. Companies with the capability to provide quick deployment of services with certified staff and have a robust resourcing strategy are well-suited to such contracts. Firms that can demonstrate both the technical ability to deliver at short notice and the operational competence to ensure security-vetted drivers and quality accommodation will find this an ideal chance for business growth. The open procedure and publicly funded nature of the contract suggest transparency and potentially recurring opportunities, encouraging participation from SMEs and proving beneficial for firms seeking to expand their presence in public sector service provision.
