Summary of the contracting process

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has successfully awarded a contract for the supply, installation, and commissioning of Liquid Scintillation Counters to Revvity (UK) Ltd. This contract, under the title "Supply, installation, and commissioning of Liquid Scintillation Counters," falls within the 'Nuclear evaluation instruments' industry category and is situated in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. The procurement process followed an open procedure and concluded with a contract signed on 23rd April 2026, set to last until 31st December 2027. This process aimed to upgrade UKAEA's Health Physics Laboratory's analytical capabilities, ensuring the replacement of end-of-life equipment with new Liquid Scintillation Counters.

This contract provides substantial opportunities for business growth, particularly for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) involved in supplying and installing nuclear equipment or similar technical apparatus. Companies specialising in nuclear safety and evaluation instruments stand to benefit from such tenders due to the specialised nature of the goods and services required. The procurement process was open, welcoming various bids, with a focus on innovation and compatibility with existing UKAEA infrastructure. Businesses well-versed in technical specifications related to Liquid Scintillation Counters and capable of providing comprehensive training and commissioning services would be well-suited for similar tenders.

Notice Title

Supply, installation, and commissioning of Liquid Scintillation Counters

Notice Description

The UKAEA Health Physics Laboratory provides analysis of tritium contaminated smears, air samples and liquids from facilities across the Culham site. In addition, gaseous stack discharge samples are also processed. Tritium is measured via LSC techniques. There is potential for Alpha or Beta contamination of tritium samples, although these contamination levels are very low, it is critical that the laboratory's analytical capabilities are maintained to continue the support of UKAEA's mission and goals. The Health Physics Laboratory requires some of their Liquid Scintillation Counters (LSCs) to be upgraded to new ones in a phased programme of replacement, by gradually phasing out end-of-life equipment. There are three LSC counters in laboratory facilities, in need to be replaced. This tender presents the technical specification for procurement of three Liquid Scintillation Counters, and provides details of the requirements to supply, install, commission, and provide training.
