Summary of the contracting process

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) has completed the procurement process for a Mechanical and Electrical Contractors Framework, focusing on the construction industry. The framework covers two lots: Mechanical Works and Electrical Works, each up to approximately £500,000. It was conducted under an open procedure, allowing for transparent competition. The procurement process included tendering, which ended on 30th January 2026. The contract was awarded on 3rd April 2026 and will run until 2nd April 2028, with potential extensions up to 2030. The contracts under this framework are targeted across the UK, particularly in the UKF14 region, including Nottingham. The framework involves design-and-build services and includes smaller-scale remedial works.

This framework offers significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaged in mechanical and electrical services to gain exposure and establish long-term relationships with a prominent public institution. The framework is set to engage a maximum of four contractors per lot, enabling businesses to benefit from repeat contracts through mini-competitions for specific projects. Business growth can stem from increased project experience, enhanced industry reputation, and access to a wider network of suppliers and clients. SMEs focused on design, installation, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment will find this tender particularly fitting to their strengths, providing them a competitive ground to showcase their capabilities.

Notice Title

Mechanical and Electrical Contractors Framework

Notice Description

NTU is looking to set up a Mechanical & Electrical Works Framework - Lot 1 Mechanical Works up to approximately PS500,000; Lot 2 - Electrical Works up to PS500,000. NTU Will use further competition to award individual projects. The successful tenderers will form a framework, and it is anticipated this will consist of a maximum four contractors per Lot. The framework will include both physical contract works and, in some cases, require the contractor to design the works they will install. Essentially, this will be a design-and-build service where NTU provides a project brief or performance specification, and the supplier assumes responsibility for developing and installing the solution. The framework must also cover smaller-scale or lower-value remedial works, call-outs, and dayworks.
