Summary of the contracting process

The University of South Wales is currently in the planning stage of a procurement process for its "Preliminary Market Engagement for Device Capabilities" project. The main focus is on IT services, particularly those involving consulting, software development, and internet support. Located in Pontypridd, Wales, this initiative is aimed at enhancing the university's capabilities in Unified Endpoint Management, particularly with Microsoft Intune. The procurement is in line with the Welsh devolved regulations and is classified as a public undertaking. Interested parties should note that a preliminary market engagement questionnaire must be completed by the due date of 16th January 2026, with further communication scheduled for 28th February 2026. The contract period for this procurement is expected to start on 1st July 2026 and end on 30th June 2029, with an estimated value of £1,440,000 inclusive of VAT.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in endpoint management, application management, and virtualisation technologies. Companies with expertise in these areas, particularly those familiar with platforms like Microsoft Intune, would find this opportunity particularly suitable. Given the focus on digital strategy and compliance with Cyber Essentials, businesses that can demonstrate innovation in these areas, as well as experience in delivering scalable and integrated IT solutions, will be in an advantageous position to propose value-added services. This is an excellent prospect for IT consultancies and service providers aiming for long-term growth by aligning with the digital transformation agenda of higher education institutions.

Notice Title

Preliminary Market Engagement for Device Capabilities at USW

Notice Description

The university has made significant progress towards a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solution, utilising Microsoft Intune. Macs are out of scope as they are not yet managed by Intune, however this scope could change in future years as Microsoft's technology updates. We run a corporately managed windows devices, along with BYOD for Android and iPhones. We would be looking to move into managed corporate Androids and iOS using Intune. The university is going through a significant phase of our digital strategy that requires significant growth in Application Streaming mixed with Desktop as a Service (DaaS). We need to grow our capabilities and are looking for suppliers to help us with this maturity. We also have an interest in utilising Chromebooks in the future and would want to ensure these are linked into Intune and the compliance configuration. We enforce "Compliant devices" within a subset of our users for Cyber Essentials, however, plan to move the entire staff base over to this configuration within the next few years. Please find a link to the portal below for access to the preliminary market engagement questionnaire. https://etenderwales.ukp.app.jaggaer.com/go/82528870019B0D927823 We are keen to receive information on the following capabilities: a) Intune: Endpoint management b) Application: Management / Packaging c) Virtualisation: Application Streaming / DaaS / VDI Please specify in the answer to the first question which of these capabilities you cover, we welcome submissions for a single one of these capabilities.
