Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process titled "NH2049 North East & North Cumbria Pathology Archiving System" is spearheaded by Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management. This initiative involves numerous NHS Trusts from the North East and North Cumbria regions of the United Kingdom. The tender is in the active stage, focusing on acquiring an advanced archiving solution to enhance the archival processes in Cellular Pathology laboratories. With a main procurement category as 'Goods', the contract has an anticipated value of £677,000 gross. Key dates include the submission deadline on the 22nd of January 2026 and the contract commencement on the 13th of February 2026. The opportunity falls within the laboratory, optical, and precision equipment industry category and uses an open procurement method.

This tender represents significant growth potential for businesses specialising in laboratory equipment, particularly those offering advanced imaging and archiving solutions. The open opportunity has been emphasised with the inclusion of criteria that support participation by SMEs and voluntary, community, and social enterprises. Companies with innovative archiving systems that are compatible with a range of barcodes used on biological samples and offer enhancements in digital diagnostics will find this opportunity particularly rewarding. In addition to fulfilling the technical requirements, businesses should focus on demonstrating the ability to improve administrative efficiencies and space utilization, creating a compelling value proposition for the buyers.

Notice Description

The North East & North Cumbria Pathology network (NENC) has obtained limited Digital Diagnostics Capability funding from NHS England for purchase of an "advanced archiving solution" that will both save time for laboratory staff and dramatically reduce the risk of misfiling and loss of tissue blocks and slides. Any proposed archiving solution must be compatible with the current and legacy linear and/or data matrix barcodes on blocks and slides for identification of the materials.
