Summary of the contracting process

The NHS England has undertaken a procurement process titled "NHS National Generics Pharmaceuticals - Supply Chain Resilience," structured as an open procedure. This procedure aims to secure supply chain resilience across multiple regions in the UK, including the Midlands, Southwest, Northwest, London, and Northeast, covering pharmaceutical products. The process has reached the award and contract stage as of July 2026, with the awards being active. The framework agreement allows for potential extensions up to 48 months, with the framework's call-off periods spanning from 1st September 2026 to 31st May 2028. This award covers various lots and products to ensure resilient supply throughout the NHS network.

This tender creates significant opportunities for both large enterprises and SMEs across the pharmaceuticals industry, as it involves a wide spectrum of suppliers, including well-known names like Fresenius Kabi Limited and Teva UK Limited, along with numerous smaller enterprises. The open procurement method facilitates equitable competition and potentially new market penetration for businesses focused on pharmaceutical product supply. Companies experienced in hospital and non-parenteral pharmaceutical products, particularly with existing infrastructure to supply across the UK, are well-suited to seize this opportunity to strengthen their presence and offerings within the NHS supply chain.
