Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process led by Natural Resources Wales for the Orthorectification Service Framework from 2026 to 2030 is now at the completion stage. This contract has been awarded to Geo Smart Decisions Ltd, a small to medium-sized enterprise, and covers the entirety of Wales from its initiation start date on 22nd June 2026 until 21st June 2028, with a budget of £450,000 gross. The procurement was conducted using an open procedure, with a framework agreement that does not involve the reopening of competition. The primary aim is to validate and rectify tree species data in the Welsh Government Woodland Estate over this period, ensuring data accuracy in 69 forest areas and concluding within a four-year timeframe.

This tender provides significant opportunities for businesses specialising in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, and forestry services. With the procurement focusing on orthorectification and data validation, companies with expertise in these areas can extend their influence within the public sector. Opportunities exist for businesses that can offer robust GIS solutions or possess an agile capacity to tackle forestry data challenges. Small and mid-sized enterprises with capabilities in managing framework agreements or delivering targeted GIS services would find this contract conducive to their growth and market expansion objectives.
