Summary of the contracting process

The Ballycronanmore Synchronous Condenser Project, spearheaded by Mutual Energy Limited, is currently in the planning stage with a focus on the Northern Ireland region. As a private utility organisation, Mutual Energy is engaging with potential suppliers to prepare for the formal tendering process. The project falls within the electricity supply and power plant construction sector, and aims to enhance system inertia and voltage support through the installation of grid-connected synchronous condenser units. Key preliminary engagement activities are already underway, with the deadline for expressing interest or engaging with Mutual Energy set for 31st March 2026. Interested suppliers are invited to register via the In-Tend portal to access further details.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in electrical engineering, construction, and power systems. Firms experienced in the manufacture and installation of electric motors, generators, and transformers may find this project aligns well with their capabilities. With its emphasis on competition and innovation, it provides a platform to contribute to Northern Ireland’s power infrastructure while potentially securing a long-term maintenance service contract. Businesses with expertise in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) models or those capable of delivering full-system designs, including civil works and high-voltage cable systems, are particularly well-suited to compete. The project's flexibility in terms of scope and procurement model further opens avenues for adaptive and strategic business proposals.
