Summary of the contracting process

The Welsh Government, located in Cardiff, is currently in the planning stage for a procurement process concerning demolition and enabling works at the Former Coney Beach Pleasure Park, which falls under the construction industry category for demolition work. This project, under the guidance of Corporate Procurement Services, is aimed at the delivery of works below threshold, involving asbestos removal, demolition, crushing, and other construction-related activities. Businesses interested in participating are invited to register their interest by March 2026, with a supplier briefing and site visit scheduled for early April 2026. Participants should register on Sell2Wales and contact via email with the designated subject line. The upcoming stages will include a detailed review of qualifications and financial capacity necessary to participate in the tender process, with a deadline set for engagement registration by the end of April 2026.

This procurement project offers substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in construction and demolition, particularly those possessing relevant experience in similar works. This engagement calls for contractors who have achieved specific accreditations such as NFDC and CHAS, and have demonstrated expertise in health & safety management and sustainability. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with an annual demolition turnover of at least £4,000,000, along with the necessary certifications, will find themselves well-suited to compete. The initiative also promises scope for further collaboration by helping shape the future tender process and framework, possessing potential for business growth in the Welsh region while contributing valuable social and environmental benefits locally. The procurement engagement process follows the Procurement Act 2023 guidelines, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a collaborative approach with the market.
