Summary of the contracting process

The Hywel Dda University Health Board in the United Kingdom has awarded a contract for the maintenance of Neptune Waste Management Suction Units used in theatres at Glangwili General Hospital and Prince Philip Hospital. This procurement, categorised under repair and maintenance services of medical and precision equipment, is located in the UKL14 region. The process reached the award stage, with a direct procurement method considered suitable due to the lack of competition. The contract will commence on the 16th of March, 2026, and conclude on the 29th of February, 2032, with a milestone set for the signature date on 11th March, 2026.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses involved in medical equipment maintenance services, particularly those with access to specialized parts and expertise. Despite being awarded directly to Stryker UK LTD due to being the only supplier with access to original manufacturer parts, other businesses in the sector can explore similar contracts or establish partnerships with trade parts suppliers or specialist engineers. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) equipped to provide high-risk medical equipment maintenance may consider similar opportunities for long-term contracts within the public health sector, particularly under direct award protocols.

Notice Title

Neptune Waste Management System (Maintenance of)

Notice Description

A fully comprehensive service contract is required for the Neptune Waste Management Suction Units, which are used throughout Theatres at Glangwili General Hospital and Prince Philip Hospital in Hywel Dda University Health Board. All high-risk medical equipment must be on a maintenance regime in order to ensure patient safety and statutory requirements are satisfied. In addition, should the equipment fail in use, this level of contract will ensure it is returned to service at the earliest time. Stryker UK LTD are the only supplier in the market with access to original manufacturer parts and specialist engineers. To ensure user and patient safety, the waste management system must be maintained accurately, and utilising the OEM provides this. Therefore, a direct award to Stryker UK LTD is the most appropriate route.
