Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) as the buying organisation, seeking suppliers for the purchase of Islet Cell Processing Systems, classified under the medical equipment industry category. Located in Edinburgh, the contract is at the award stage as of 13th March 2026, with Biorep Technologies, Inc. being the awarded supplier. The contract includes an initial capital purchase of one system, with an option for a second, alongside consumables and servicing for five years, extendable by two additional one-year periods. The procurement utilised a limited method without prior publication due to technical reasons necessitating direct award.

This tender presents meaningful growth opportunities for businesses specialised in medical equipment supply, particularly those capable of providing advanced cell processing technology. Given the contract's focus on technical specificity, businesses with expertise in bespoke medical machinery or niche capabilities in cell processing systems are positioned well to compete. SMEs with innovative medical solutions may find robust expansion opportunities by engaging with public sector contracts like this, especially due to the long-term service and consumables provision associated with the contract.
