Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence's Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) has completed the awarding of a contract for the provision of repairs, upgrades, and associated equipment concerning aircrew helmets, in-ear communication devices, and ground use headsets. This procurement falls under the 'goods' category and is specific to military helmets, with a location focus across the United Kingdom. The procurement process followed a limited method, negotiated without publication of a contract notice, due to technical reasons stated under the Defence and Security Public Contracts Regulations 2011. The contract, valued at approximately £19.43 million including VAT, has been awarded to Helmet Integrated Systems Ltd, trading as Gentex Europe, ensuring continued support and services following the expiry of previous contracts.

This tender presents significant business opportunities for large enterprises with experience and capability in military equipment supply and maintenance, specifically in the areas of helmets and communication devices used in aviation. The procurement requires specialised technical expertise and ownership of intellectual property rights for the equipment involved, making organisations with design and technical capability, like Gentex Europe, prime candidates. Companies possessing similar attributes and accreditations could look to position themselves as potential partners or subcontractors for Gentex Europe, supporting the ongoing needs of the Ministry of Defence within this specialised sector.
