Summary of the contracting process

The University of Ulster is initiating a tender process for the construction of the Northland Road Sports Dome in Derry~Londonderry, funded in part by the PEACEPLUS Programme. The project involves creating a tensile PVC membrane structure known as "the Dome," which encompasses approximately 15,700 m² and includes additional works such as a car park and civic event space. The procurement falls under the works category, specifically inflatable buildings construction work, and has a total budget of £12,000,000. The process is currently at the tender stage, with submissions due by 1st May 2026. The dome is expected to be completed before June 2028, and the contracting will be under an NEC4 Option B Priced Contract with bills of quantities.

This tender represents a significant business opportunity for contractors specialising in design and construction, particularly in large-scale infrastructure projects. Businesses with experience in constructing tensile structures or PVC membrane installations should find this tender appealing. Given the selective procurement method through a two-stage restricted procedure, companies capable of navigating the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) and Invitation to Tender (ITT) stages will be well-suited for this project. The University of Ulster aims to attract competitive candidates with a strong track record in similar developments, benefiting from business growth in the education and public sector construction works. The procurement requires adherence to EU, Euratom regulatory conditions, ensuring high standards and compliance.
