Summary of the contracting process

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has recently completed a procurement process for the "Pathology Integration Engine (PIE) Hosting and Support." As a public authority in the UK's central government sector, the organisation sought a direct procurement method below the threshold, which means the contract was awarded without competition. The contract, focused on IT services, commenced on 1 January 2026 and concludes on 31 December 2026. This initiative aims to support a cloud-based interoperability platform crucial for routing pathology test orders and results, enhancing the efficiency of clinical operations across Leicester. Synanetics Ltd, based in York, has been awarded the contract, valued at £108,000 gross, with the formal signing on 31 December 2025.

This tender presents considerable growth opportunities for businesses specialising in IT services, particularly those offering consulting, software development, internet, and support. The direct procurement approach suggests that businesses with innovative solutions in cloud-based systems and interoperability platforms could be advantageous in future projects. Companies like Synanetics Ltd, which are skilled in navigating government procurement processes and providing specific technological expertise, would be well-suited to similar opportunities, offering potential growth through valuable public sector partnerships.
