Summary of the contracting process

Supply Chain Coordination Limited, through NHS Supply Chain, intends to establish a national framework for airway management products and associated equipment for delivery across the United Kingdom. The scope covers laryngoscopes and video laryngoscopes; tracheal intubation equipment; single-use upper-airway devices; bronchoscopes and flexible intubating endoscopes with accessories; endotracheal and endobronchial tubes and blockers; tracheostomy tubes; supraglottic airways and simple airway adjuncts; breathing-system circuits and accessories; and humidification and filtration products, including HME, HMEF, bacterial and viral filters. This is a goods procurement covering respiratory, anaesthesia, operating-theatre and wider medical devices, including gas-therapy and resuscitation equipment.

This procurement is at the planning stage: the buyer has announced an intention to procure and has not invited tenders. It is expected to use a framework agreement, with one planned lot and a procurement value of £250 million excluding VAT (£300 million including VAT). The planned contract period is 22 July 2028 to 21 July 2030, with renewal possible up to 21 July 2032. The buyer expects to issue the next notice by 30 January 2027. Market engagement is scheduled to include requests for information issued between 20 August and 17 September 2026, feedback on the specification, product list and evaluation requirements between 2 October and 5 November 2026, and a supplier face-to-face day in October 2026. Suppliers can register interest through the NHS Supply Chain procurement portal.

The work is suited to manufacturers, authorised distributors and specialist medical-device suppliers with established product ranges across airway management, anaesthesia, respiratory care and operating-theatre equipment. Suppliers able to provide both reusable and single-use products, associated accessories and consumables may be well placed to contribute to the framework’s broad catalogue. The buyer has indicated that small and medium-sized enterprises and voluntary, community or social enterprises are suitable participants. Businesses with reliable national supply, product availability, clinical and technical support, and experience supplying NHS or other healthcare organisations should prepare to engage. Product compliance, quality assurance, regulatory evidence and the capacity to support framework customers across the UK are likely to be important. The current activity is for market engagement and preparation, not bidding.
