Summary of the contracting process

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust procured a ranked framework for the supply and delivery of dose-banded compounded chemotherapy, including pharmacy services. This award shows demand for reliable manufacture and supply of compounded, dose-banded chemotherapy across NHS trusts, at both high and low product volumes. Suppliers competing when this requirement returns will need the technical capability, quality assurance and compliant production arrangements to provide the specified medicines, supported by products with competitive shelf life. The scoring gives technical compliance and capability the greatest weight, with shelf life also carrying substantial importance, so suppliers should be able to evidence these areas clearly. Price matters, but accounts for less than half of the scored evaluation; social value is also assessed. The eight appointed suppliers included specialist pharmaceutical manufacturers and aseptic services providers, indicating competition among established organisations able to serve multiple trusts. The framework is ranked and does not reopen competition for each requirement, making dependable supply and continuity of care important commercial strengths.
