Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process initiated by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust involves a planned service contract for the maintenance of mobile mammography units, specifically the green, purple, and blue Lynton trailers, at King's College Hospital in London. The industry category is repair and maintenance services of medical and surgical equipment. The contracting process is in the planning stage, with the contract period expected to commence on 30th April 2026 and conclude on 29th April 2031. Located in the United Kingdom, this procurement falls under a "Below threshold - unknown" procurement method within a special "lightTouch" regime. This planned procurement notice was published on 23rd April 2026, highlighting the engagement terms needed for preventative maintenance service covering a five-year period.

This tender presents a unique opportunity for businesses specialising in medical equipment maintenance, particularly those with capacities for handling sensitive healthcare machinery like mammography units. However, due to Lynton Trailers being the Original Equipment Manufacturer and their policy of not authorising third-party service providers, opportunities are primarily limited to Lynton Trailers. Businesses that can collaborate with Lynton or supply OEM parts may find potential growth prospects, as they hold stock of necessary consumables and majority of spare parts. Though opportunities for service providers are limited, suppliers of auxiliary supporting systems and parts for the OEM might find growth potential in this tender.

Notice Title

Maintenance for Mobile Mammography Units (Green, Purple & Blue)

Notice Description

Preventative maintenance service contract - 5 year cover for mammography Lynton trailers (new green, new purple and new blue) at King's College Hospital. Includes x1 annual service visit and a 6th monthly inspection. Lynton Trailers (UK) Ltd are the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the mobile units supplied to King's College Hospital. As the OEM, they design and manufacture the trailers and retain full responsibility for their servicing, technical support, and the supply of OEM spare parts. Lynton do not authorise third-party service providers to carry out maintenance or repairs on these mobile units, nor do they supply OEM parts, specialist components, or consumables to third parties for this purpose. This ensures the equipment continues to operate safely and in accordance with the original design specifications. As part of the maintenance service, Lynton also remotely monitor temperature and power status alerts from systems installed within the mobiles. These alerts form part of their ongoing maintenance support to ensure the units remain operational and compliant. As the manufacturer, Lynton are therefore uniquely positioned to provide the required servicing and maintenance. They hold stock of all consumables and the majority of OEM spare parts required to support the trailers throughout their operational life.
