Summary of the contracting process

Durham County Council invites bids for the "North Pennines National Landscape Partnership Peatland Restoration Framework," targeting the construction industry for peatland restoration activities. The tender, currently in the 'Tender' stage, is set to close on 3rd June 2026, with the enquiry period ending on 22nd May 2026. The initiative covers construction works such as fencing, installation of dams, and supply of restoration materials across the UKC region and affiliated areas. This framework agreement initially spans two years with potential for extension by two additional one-year periods, subject to funding. The Council aims to incorporate up to eight contractors based on technical and essential criteria, with scoring that emphasises quality, pricing, and social value.

With a gross value of up to £5.16 million, successful bidders can enhance their portfolios and penetrate new markets through the framework's flexibility allowing both direct call-offs and competed call-offs. Companies with expertise in eco-friendly construction materials or innovative land restoration techniques stand to gain competitive advantages. The procurement process is open, favouring businesses familiar with competitive pricing and quality service delivery, fostering opportunities not just locally but also for those with the capability to operate across various UK regions.
