The procurement comes under the services category, specifically targeting health services, with a focus on eyecare for male prisoners at the facility. The procurement does not fall under public contract regulations due to the nature of health services in Wales, with the directive ID being 32014L0024.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses operating within the healthcare industry, especially those specialising in ophthalmic services. The contract, valued at £70,200, is potentially lucrative for small and medium-sized enterprises, such as the prison opticians company, which is named as the supplier. Businesses capable of delivering a range of optometric services, including WGOS 1 and 2 eye health examinations onsite, will be particularly well-suited. The contract stipulates that optometrists should possess additional qualifications for providing WGOS 3-5 services, offering a growth avenue for businesses eager to expand their credentials and service offerings within the prison healthcare sector.
