Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process involves Worcester Cathedral as the buying organisation, which seeks expressions of interest for a scaffolding contractor under the project title "Worcester Cathedral – Reaching New Heights." This project is part of the works category and is situated in Worcester, UK (region UKG12). The procurement stage is currently in the tender phase, with significant dates being the enquiry period closing on 15 May 2026 and the tender period ending on 4 June 2026. This open procedure aims to secure services for a high-level access scaffold essential for the repair works on the Cathedral's North-West tower pinnacles, following storm damage and fabric deterioration. The procurement is regulated by the UKPGA 2023/54 legal framework, and the total contract value is projected at £135,000 (net) or £162,000 (gross).

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialised in historic or listed buildings and those experienced in extensive scaffolding systems. It is particularly suited for companies with expertise in working on Grade I listed structures, like cathedrals, that warrant a visually sensitive and expertly engineered scaffold solution. Potential contractors are expected to showcase their capability to minimise interventions into the historic fabric and manage complex high-level access in constrained environments. Besides, businesses with a strong health and safety ethic and the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams will find this tender a compelling opportunity to enhance their portfolio, particularly if they hold relevant industry accreditations and possess experience in similar heritage conservation projects. SMEs meeting these criteria are encouraged to submit an expression of interest, offering them a chance to grow by engaging in a high-profile, conservation-focused undertaking.
