Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process, initiated by JISC, a sub-central government public authority based in Bristol, United Kingdom, focuses on a Telecommunications Framework. This framework seeks to provide managed transmission services and dark fibre services. The industry category falls under Telecommunications equipment and supplies, and Telecommunications services, with the contract period planned from 14th September 2027 to 13th September 2029. The current stage of procurement is in the planning phase, and it involves a framework agreement. Although no firm commitment to a procurement process is yet in place, key dates mentioned include a future notice to be issued on 1st June 2027, dependent on internal approvals and funding availability.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses in the telecommunications sector, particularly those offering transmission and dark fibre services. Companies capable of delivering comprehensive telecommunications solutions may find this tender advantageous due to the framework agreement structure, which can often lead to long-term partnerships and repeated business. Businesses with a robust understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape, including compliance with the Procurement Act 2023, are well-positioned to benefit. As JISC may also consider existing frameworks as potential avenues, registered suppliers are advised to maintain strong profiles on Jisc’s e-procurement portal.
