Summary of the contracting process

The public procurement process conducted by Transpennine Trains Limited focuses on the repair, maintenance, and support services for Automatic Ticket Gate (ATG) systems across the TransPennine Express network. Located in Manchester, UK, this procurement falls under the industry category of maintenance and repair of ticket-validation machinery. As of the most recent update on 29th May 2026, the procurement has reached the award stage, with the contract valued at £4,500,000 signed on 25th May 2026. The procurement method was limited, specifically negotiated without publication of a contract notice, mainly due to the proprietary nature of the existing systems which require maintenance by the original equipment manufacturer.

This procurement presents substantial opportunities for businesses able to provide technical maintenance and support for highly specialised ATG systems, particularly those with experience in handling proprietary systems and components. The contract has been awarded to Cubic Transportation Systems, a large-scale supplier, indicating that businesses with robust technical capabilities and familiarity with integrated rail and ticketing ecosystems are well-suited to such challenges. Companies capable of offering specialised maintenance solutions for complex transportation infrastructure could find significant growth opportunities in similar procurement processes.
